Georgina Hold

Georgina Hold Professor of Gut Health, UNSW and Director of Research, South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.  

Georgina Hold is a translational research Professor of Gut Health at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the Director of Research for the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). In these roles, she oversees research programs across academic and health sectors while mentoring clinical and translational researchers.

Over the span of her 26-year career, Georgina has been dedicated to the practice and study of gastrointestinal microbiology with a particular emphasis on IBD.

She has contributed to numerous high impact peer-reviewed publications and has led and participated in multi-centre studies aimed at addressing key challenges in gastroenterology.

Since 2021, Georgina has served on the Research and Grants Committee, representing the IBD portfolio. In 2024 she began co-organising the annual GESA Research workshop and organising the basic science sessions for Australian Gastroenterology Week. She is passionate about mentoring early-career researchers and creating pathways for the next generation of gastrointestinal specialists and researchers.
