David Hewett

David Hewett: MBBS Hons, Qld, MSc, PhD, FRACP, FGESA

David Hewett is a Gastroenterologist and Therapeutic Colonoscopist at Colonoscopy Clinic and an Associate Professor at the University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine.

David is a specialist in colorectal cancer screening and familial cancer and polyposis syndromes. He is particularly knowledgeable in complex and advanced colonoscopy techniques and is involved in colonoscopy training. His research interests include innovation and advanced techniques for colonoscopy performance, such as artificial intelligence and advanced imaging. He also focuses on the resection of large precancerous polyps. 

David has parallel interests in health systems research and medical education, with a focus on patient care quality, intergroup relations, and procedural skills training. He grew up in Brisbane and completed his medical degree with honours at the University of Queensland. He then became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in gastroenterology. David has received several prestigious scholarships and awards for his research and has published extensively on colonoscopy techniques, technology, and training. He has also held various leadership roles in clinical and academic settings. He is actively involved in global colorectal cancer policy and training initiatives and serves on advisory boards for multiple organizations. He is a member of several professional associations and editorial boards for medical journals in his field of expertise.
