GESA is the peak body for Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists in Australia.
GESA works in partnership with many key organisations including the federal and state and territory governments. We provide advice to support policy decisions; participate in decisions of where best to fund research, ways to improve service delivery and opportunities to improve patient care.

GESA is engaged in a number of efforts including;
Lowering the bowel cancer screening age to 45 and over.
Streamlining the administrative process to allow patients to get access to biologics ensuring patients get access to best available treatment options.
Increased access for patients with inflammatory bowel disease to faecal calprotectin tests.
Working with specialist societies on Guideline development incl. Procedural Sedation, in order to optimise patient care in the management of procedural sedation and to identify the competencies that sedationists should possess.
Supporting Regional and Remote Healthcare with our Regional, Remote Indigenous Program including the placing of GESA Gastroenterology Fellowship opportunities, Visiting Professor program and an intensive Outreach program being undertaken as part of a 5 year initiative in partnership with NT Health.
Reviewing MBS colonoscopy item numbers and providing key considerations through consultation and feedback processes.
Producing position statements and resources for GPs, and patients ensuring the highest standards of clinical practice.
