Scott Read

Scott is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Sydney, where he studies the molecular and immunological mechanisms of immunity and inflammation in chronic disease. Upon completing his master’s degree in Canada studying host:virus protein interaction in mosquitoes, Scott travelled to Sydney to undertake his PhD under Jacob George and Mark Douglas at the Storr Liver Centre in Westmead. Scott completed his PhD examining HCV treatment response, and transitioned his research towards the immunology of chronic inflammation under Prof Golo Ahlenstiel. Chronic inflammation is particularly relevant in the gut and liver, where inflammatory conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) as well as chronic viral infections such as hepatitis B (HBV) or hepatitis C (HCV) drive persistent immune activation. Scott is currently examining the role of interferon lambdas in driving Kupffer cell activation, and is developing a number of primary cell models to examine their role in chronic disease.
