Phillip Whiley completed his MChD at The Australian National University in 2018 and is currently an Intern at The Canberra Hospital. Phillip studied Biochemistry at the Queensland University of Technology and University of Queensland before working on breast cancer genetics at the QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute. In this role he used statistical and molecular techniques to understand the clinical significance of DNA variants in the tumour suppressor genes, BRCA1 and BRCA2. Phillip was a founding member of the ENIGMA consortium, developing collaborations in the USA, Europe and Asia.

Phillip joined the IBD Research Laboratory at The Canberra Hospital in 2016 and has focussed on utilising deep sequencing technologies and quantifying gene expression in the inflammatory bowel diseases. His work researches the interplay between genetics, immunology and microbiology with an emphasis on the host response in inflammation.
