Dr Lionel Hebbard

Dr Hebbard is the Associate Dean of Research at JCU. He is a native of Australia, completed his PhD in Germany (1995-99) and for his postdoctoral time he undertook research on angiogenesis, mammary cancer and cancer stem cells, and the application of new therapeutics in murine models at the University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland (1999-2002) and the Burnham Institute for Medical Research, La Jolla, USA (2002-8). He returned to Australia in 2008 and established the Cancer and Metabolism Research Group at the Westmead Millennium Institute in Sydney (2008-15). In 2015 he relocated the group to James Cook University in the Discipline of Molecular and Cell Biology. His research focuses on the role of obesity in liver cancer, liver fibrosis and muscle function. He is affiliated with the Australian Institute of Tropical Health and Medicine.
