Dr Jessica Howell MBBS(Hons) PhD FRACP

Dr Howell is a consultant gastroenterologist at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. After completing a translational immunology PhD in hepatitis C recurrence post liver transplantation, she pursued post-doctoral studies at Imperial College London in epidemiology and public health, leading several international studies on biomarkers in hepatitis B and liver cancer (including novel genetic technologies). Currently, Dr Howell is an NHMRC Sidney Sax Fellow in the Disease Elimination program, Burnet Institute and Adjunct Fellow in the Department of Preventative Medicine and Epidemiology, Monash University and Department of Medicine, University of Melbourne. She combines experience in basic laboratory science and epidemiology in her research in liver cancer and viral hepatitis, focussing on novel biomarker development, epidemiology and public health interventions. She has a special interest in research translation in refugee health, prisons and low-middle income countries (Asia and Oceania).
