Francis Gratte

Francis Gratte is a postgraduate research student enrolled at the School of Veterinary and Life Sciences at Murdoch University, and based in Dr. Nina Tirnitz-Parker’s “Liver Disease and Regeneration Group” at the Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute at Curtin University in Perth. Previously, Francis’ work involved adult liver and pancreatic stem cell differentiation in vitro. Building on this, his current research centres on defining and characterising the dynamic nature of cell biology and the hepatic microenvironment during different phases of chronic liver disease (CLD). His project focusses on the relationship between liver progenitor cells (LPCs), and hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), which are known to co-regulate CLD-associated processes such as fibrosis through cytokine cross-talk. This relationship may represent a novel target for direct or indirect remediation of fibrosis and its associated complications.
