Research Awards

INTRODUCTION

Gastroenterological research has been given remarkable exposure through the awarding of the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 2005 to Barry Marshall and Robin Warren. A key objective of GESA is to encourage and look to the future of gastroenterology research in Australia.

The Research Committee is responsible for the assessment of awards, scholarships and fellowships designed to facilitate the research career development of young clinicians and scientists in gastroenterology, hepatology and related disorders. The ultimate aim of course is to improve gastrointestinal health and well-being of all Australians.

The Gastroenterological Society of Australia has made a significant financial investment over the years to build a research fund to primarily provide research scholarships and salary support for younger members to undertake full time research in both basic and clinical GE research. The Society is committed to growing this research fund to provide ongoing support into the future.

The Society is extremely grateful to our Industry partners for their continued support of these initiatives. The sponsoring of GE research by industry is one of the premier ways that industry can help the Society and show their commitment to the future of gastroenterology in Australia.
