The following Associations advise Council and its committees on matters related to the subspecialties. The Associations have been instrumental in raising the profile of their respective disciplines, both nationally and internationally.

Australian Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association (AGEA)

The Australian Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association (AGEA) is composed of those members of the Society with an interest in endoscopy.

Functions

  • Promote high standards of training and practice for gastrointestinal endoscopy.
  • Foster endoscopic research and the development of its clinical applications
  • Be the foremost resource for education in gastrointestinal endoscopy to health professionals and the public
  • Advocate responsible positions on issues related to gastrointestinal endoscopy for the benefit of patients, the public, members of the Society and the medical profession.
  • Service the professional needs of the membership

Activities

Training

AGEA works with the Conjoint Committee for Recognition of Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Training to develop and monitor guidelines to endoscopic training in Australia.

Guidelines

AGEA is involved in the development and revision of guidelines related to the practice of endoscopy. These guidelines have been instrumental in setting leading edge practice standards in Australia.

Education

AGEA is involved in formulating the endoscopy component of Australian Gastroenterology Week

Australian Liver Association (ALA)

The Australian Liver Association (ALA) is composed of those members of the Society with an interest in liver disease.

Functions:

  • Promote high standards of training and practice in liver disease.
  • Convenes workshops pertinent to laboratory based and clinical research into liver disease.
  • Assists in the development of educational materials relevant to the specialty
  • Has input into government policy on technology and treatment pertinent to liver disease.
  • Promotes and assists with the development of professional standards
  • Interfaces with international bodies pertinent to the liver and liver diseases.

Australian IBD Association (AIBDA)

AIBDA covers the areas of GIT infection and inflammation (i.e. Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, coeliac disease, microscopic colitis etc).

Conjoint Committee

The Conjoint Committee for recognition in gastrointestinal endoscopy. More
